I’ve just released a new song this week for my two year old daughter! It’s about the love we have for our children as they’re growing. I write more about it below.
Sometimes it feels like time should pause.
Let me be here for at least a minute longer before this moment is gone.1
I don’t remember feeling that sentiment much before my wife and I had our first baby two years ago, but then I began to feel it often. I would foresee my daughter’s childhood to adulthood in my mind, and be in tears while she was still only a one-week-old baby in my arms.
“Please, just keep being this beautiful baby…”
It’s a feeling connected to moments of deep love for people or God or His creation. Sometimes it’s woven into the joy and love experienced in moments of singing, working, or creating.
Most of all, I think this feeling is a powerful longing for an eternal Kingdom that we’re living in, but that isn’t fully realized yet.
the new song
So, I wrote a new song called: “I Wish My Love Could Keep You Like This”. The acoustic version is just releasing on the streaming platforms. I wrote it when our daughter was just one week old, and we just celebrated her turning two years old.
The song shares some emotions my wife and I had of a newborn coming into our lives. And even while wishing I could keep my baby like this, I look ahead with the phrase, “But I know / That you’ll grow”.
I hope you enjoy the song 🙏

I Wish My Love Could Keep You Like This
Verse 1 I wish my love could keep you like this From your tiny toes and hands To your little, rosy lips And the sound of your sweet gentle cries They would always be the songs Bringing tears to my eyes But I know That you'll grow Chorus Thank you God for the grace that you've given For the love of a Father poured out for His Child And every day my baby grows I'll feel this way again I wish my love could keep you like this Verse 2 I remember when I first saw your face And every fear that we had Felt completely out of place Then I held you and said, "just be still" And I thought in my heart, "Maybe that's how God feels" And He knows That we'll grow Verse 3 When the Father says His Kingdom has come And the true King returns For all His daughters and sons We will dance by the light of His smile We're just kids in His eyes With a faith like a child And we'll know That we're home
Thanks for reading!
Shalom and happy Thanksgiving.

This makes me think of the song “Photograph” by Cody Fry. I also wrote a poem with some similar sentiments called “How will time feel after death?” that you can read here.
