A newsletter subscription for
art, poetry, and music

to disrupt and illuminate our souls.

I want to help people out of the black and white jello molds that the rulers and principalities are trying to squish us into.

I’m Durgan, and I’m creating art, poetry, and music around my experiences with spiritual formation, addiction to technology and entertainment, the church, anxiety, healing, simplifying, and beyond…

“Interesting; how can I experience this art, poetry, and music?”

I’m sharing it here on my Substack, which is an email newsletter you can subscribe to.

My writings and creative works come straight to your inbox. (You can also read them anytime like a blog at durganmaxey.substack.com or in the Substack app.)

If my work resonates with you, I would love it if you would subscribe below and share with someone else who would be impacted by these works.

Free Subscription

I want the works to be accessible to all different people, so I’m not putting everything behind a paywall.  Here’s what the free subscription includes:

  • At least once a month you’ll get my email newsletter where I’ll share a new artwork, composition, or poem.

  • Be the first to know about live art/music/poetry events I’m doing.

Paid Subscription

Paid subscribers are the ones who make my artwork financially sustainable.

I’m an independent artist, so your subscription is truly supporting me and my family. I take your investment in my work seriously.

On top of the normal newsletter, here’s what the paid subscription includes:

  • You’ll receive my “process” newsletters/videos where I’ll give the behind-the-scenes of what I’m working on. Go to this link to see an example of this newsletter.

  • You can join the conversation and comment on posts.

  • You’re the first to know about new releases (e.g. art pieces for sale, new songs upcoming, if I self publish a poetry book, etc.).

  • Get a download link for the songs I release (you own the file, not just streaming it like everyone else).

  • As a patron of my creative works, you have my deep gratitude 🙏

  • Founding Patrons also receive a signed poem card.

Thanks for stopping here and reading through. I hope I can bring you fruitful disruption and light through my work.

Shalom.

About Durgan

Here’s a snapshot of my life: I’m from Northwest Arkansas, studied music composition in college, and wrote and arranged music. Then my wife (Carlyn) and I got married, I made some paintings, worked for about 10 years in a large baptist church in music/worship/tech/production, I watched too much TV, I was addicted to coffee and my phone, and ate too much processed food and sugar and fried chicken. My gut freaked out a lot for several months due to the food and my own stress and anxiety. We prayed a lot, read the gospels again, left the church job to teach music at our house and simplify/unhurry while thinking a lot about church/making disciples, and read a lot of books. I changed my diet and worked out, grew my hair out, our two babies were born at our house, and I grew a (just ok) mustache. We connected to some house churches, planted a garden, wrote some poetry, I shaved the mustache, got a haircut, and worked in corporate event production.

////// most recently: left production job to work with my brother and sister-in-law at their gymnastics gym and more seriously pursue making art, music, poetry, and beyond.
